Although it's a mirrorless camera, the look and feel is the one of a DSLR.
In spite of the bad criticisms on the network, I decided to buy one. Main reason?. Best price/performance ratio for MF lenses usage.
I paid 325€ at Amazon, bearing in mind it comes with a black SEL1855 lens (that I didn't use at all and currently in process of selling to further reduce the acquisition costs).
The good things:
- DSLR shape, good grip and much more balanced for big lenses than the NEX line.
- E-mount, (with all the bells and whistles, short register distance, etc.)
- Cost
- Same interface than my former NEX-C3, so nothing new to learn.
- Digital Viewfinder, for situations of strong sunlight (common here).
- Same battery than the NEX-C3, so I already have two spare ones.
- 20Mpix sensor, last generation
- Electronic shutter with only one curtain, (it doesn's sound like the one at the C3, with three chained Clack-Clack-Clack, but a single Clack)
- Same lens adapters than the NEX line.
The not so good things:
- Look and feel quite "plastic", feels too light at the beginning, although after a couple of weeks I feel fine with it.
- Limitted viewfinder resolution, enough for me for the extreme sunlight situations.
- LCD enough to use but under the current standards.
- The kit I bought came with a power supply to power the camera from the power outlets and to charge the battery inside the camera, but no any external charger. So I had to buy one, a chinese PATONA, that has proven to be good, cheap (15€) and comes with a car plug to charge also when in the route.
All in all and watching the results, I'm happy with it and I would buy it again.
Now taking samples with my Minolta lenses, this time with the 100mm f/2.5 wide open:
Focus on the red berries (or whatever they are) in the center:

Hmm, doesnt look so bad. I was considering getting rid of my D3100 and getting something in the Sony DSLR line, but this is totally compatible with my NEX5 stuff and looks pro enough to use for work. It would seem to have the best of both worlds. Let us know how you get on with it. _________________ Hero in the 'messin-with-cameras-for-the-hell-of-it department'. Official. |

You said it right. "It looks pro".
LCD and VF are a bit short on performance, but if you can cope with it, the results are good. _________________ Jesito, Moderator

Congratulations, Jes!
To be honest, I have been thinking about getting one of those as well for a while now.
The price of the set is inbeatable and it combined the body of a DSLR (with the better balance with manual lenses) with the short register distance of a NEX. Seems pretty perfect for shooting with manual SLR gear.
But if I got one, my wife would probably hit me on my head with it. I've got too many different systems already! _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!
