Very nice. Looks better than I expected, my Biometar 80 performs better on film than digital for some reason.

looks like your new camera is a perfect vehicle to bring out the best of this outstanding lens. the whole biometar series is among my favorites.

Yes they are quite nice, this is by the way the Pentacon 6 Zebra version.

Maybe the size of the sensor makes the difference, not the medium.

Mainly, it is due to the larger image circle, so there is more stray light and that has a negative impact on the macro and micro contrast. The same is true of all the MF lenses I have used on my digital cameras.

That's a very good observation Bernhard, and I expect correct. Smile

I have the same experience with some of my lenses.
As a concequence, pictures tend to be slightly underexposed due to this additional light.

I have made some tests with my Super Tak 55mm which I equiped with a teleobjective hood ( on micro 4/3 sensors) which show that this added vignette helps to increase contrasts.

hmm .. shame the pics are gone

im watching a Carl Zeiss Jena Biometar 80mm f/2.8, early 50s, silver, not-much fungus [heh]

looks like a very nice lens

Congratz, the lens is quite nice, you should upload some new pics to the thread Wink

heh, i wish

i'm just watching some examples, aint got one yet

theres several versions too, the zebra pentacon six version seems prized by film-makers

i'm kinda seeking out more lightweight lenses to use on Pana G1

i.e M42 fitting or so

Lightweight or small maybe?!?
Jupiter-8 and Jupiter-9 will fit your G1 nicely Wink
And C-mounts or Pentax-110 lenses!

And I forgot to mention, the PEN F series lenses are outstanding and a good combo for crop sensor cams as it was made for half frame Wink

Eugene Smith appeared in a Pen F ad. One ad used a shoe as a gadget bag to emphasis the camera and lenses small size.

totally never [/i] looked at Pen F lenses, interesting

i've actually got a couple of lenses on the way atm, got to stop buying stuph for awhile, also i need a winter coat

did a foolish-impulse-bid on a tatty Summitar 5cm f2, and won @ 85 notes

--dated by its serial to 1939 tho--

its quite a piece of work to operate, i always wanted to try leica tho

it wont collapse all the way, it hits the electronics contacts, i need to tape them or so

its severely in need of CLA, its not just innerly-hazy, its got balsam-separate on the front glasses

proper re-centering is the trickiest bit, i read

PostPosted: Fri Nov 07, 2014 7:29 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

The coat can be found in a second hand shop too Wink

Congratz on the Summitar! What`s good with legacy lenses is their constant value Very Happy
Investments, I tell my wife...

Leitz accessories prices can be eye-watering

when u can pay more for a freaking lenshood than the lens itself ..

that said, i find myself wanting the Elmar 5cm f3.5

PostPosted: Fri Nov 14, 2014 1:10 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

i'm really liking this Summitar

i think its well worth investing in a re-balsam-ing of the separating front pair

and a good CLA + lenscap and hood

prolly have to wait till next year but

i do hope Malcolm Taylor is still doing Leitz lenses

i'm still looking at a Biometar 80mm f/2.8 silver in M42

is this originally 35mm or 6x6? i think 35mm, so maybe will work better on my G1

bit pricy, but apparently quite un-common in M42

PostPosted: Sun Nov 23, 2014 3:13 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I see them quite often. Here Click here to see on Ebay, some CLA
and you're good to go...
