I have a carl zeiss jena p 28mm 2.8 is it better than a olympus m.zuiko 28mm.
Are these carl zeiss all about the hype or are they a relly good lens . Owing to the weather and work I haven't been able to give mine a thorough testing also what about the hoya 28mm

The Carl Zeiss Jena lens is actually a Pentacon lens rebranded. It's decent enough but I would imagine the Oly will be better. BTW, the CZJ Pentacon lens will only work on mirrorless.

Yeah I have a EPL1 it. works fine .What about other brands such as VIVITAR SIGMA COSINA AND CARENA .So many so what's good and what's bad ?

The big name lenses are usually the best e.g. Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Pentax, Contax Carl Zeiss

If you already have the CZJ 28/2.8 P, try it out first. It's still a decent lens Smile

Yep, Nikon ais 24/2.8 is stunning. Other versions are probably great too. The Yashica ML 24/2.8 is also very good and Ian is very keen on the Konica version. Cheaper options are the Tamron 24/2.5 which is fairly good.

BTW, Hoya lenses are made by Tokina. The wider ones are OK, but nothing special.

Yup, I have the Konica 2.8/24 and really love it. I also happen to have the Nikkor 2.8/24 too, an early single coated one, and it's also a great lens, I really couldn't pick between them, they are both great.

The others that are excellent are the ones, as Graham says, from the major makers - Canon FD, Olympus OM, Yashica ML, and perhaps the best of the lot as it has floating elements - the Minolta MD 2.8/24.

I also had the Hoya 2.8/24, made by Tokina. I liked it, good coatings, nice and sharp, pleasant bokeh, good colours, on my NEX it performed very nicely, not quite as good as the Konica or Nikon but still a very capable lens imho. I sold it because I just had too many lenses, not because it wasn't worth having.

I have spotted a PENTAX 110 24mm but unsure of the mount it looks like a pentax k which I have a adapter for are thse lttle lenses worth buying? I will post picture in ten mins.

It's for the Pentax 110 camera, the mount is unique to that camera. There are adapters to the NEX but it's not really worth it as there is no aperture in the lens and it's more of a interesting toy to play with than an alternative to the other 24mms mentioned.

Keep looking as I picked up a mint OM mount Vivitar 24mm f2 for £4, 24mm Ensinor and 24mm Sigma superwide II both under £10....maybe not the best 24mms in the world but they are still good.

What is the difference between G .ZUIKO and H.ZUIKO is it age related ?

In 24mm there is a very good third party lens that appears under many different names, I have two 24 / 2.8 that are the same lens - one is branded Tefnon the other Clubman, but apparently it can be found under other brands as well, Such as Ensinor, and it's a very good lens. The Hoya 24 / 2.8 is good, maybe not exceptional but certainly not bad. I like mine anyway.
It's a nice focal length, and very forgiving. So even a mediocre 24 will give you good results used in its sweet spot.
