Pinhole - first tries

These are my first attempts at pinhole photography. I was using a bodycap with a hole, pinhole made to a thin sheet of metal with a needle. I didn´t measure the hole, but I approximate it to be around f/180. Nikon D700 body.

The pics are taken at ISO 1600, 2 secs exposure.

Straight from the camera, resized.

With PP.

A pinhole self-portrait.

The focal lenght seems to be about 45 mm. To get wider pics, do I have to recess the pinhole nearer the sensor?

interesting practice of this (in my opinion) essential topic in optics and photography.

in my understanding, the focal distance is just the distance from the pinhole to the sensor.
so if you construct a pinhole in a body cap on a DSLR body this will be around 50mm.
(approximately the back flange focal distance)

by placing the pinhole closer to the sensor i expect that you will indeed get a wider angle, hence the decrease in focal distance.

your photos look promising, but the high iso value might induce some noise.
a small pinhole will also induce unsharpness due to diffraction, however you have (in theory) no chromatic aberration and coma and such without a lens, which is also evident on your photos.

i am interesting in how the picture will look like with a lower iso value, and different sizes of pinholes.

thanks for sharing!
