Since I finally got a MILC, I can now answer a long awaited question I have been wondering myself. So I thought I would share my results with you guys. The subject matter is a little boring. I know what I think, but, which one looks better to you? and why? is the 50 1.4 really worth more than the 55 1.8 in terms of sharpness, etc.
The three lenses compared are The SMC takumar 55 1.8 / Super-Takumar 55 1.8 / Super-Takumar 50 1.4 (I THINK its the newer version, not the 8 Element)
Here are three pics WIDE open @ 1.4 and 1.8 respectively:
SMC-Tak 55mm 1.8:
Super-Tak 55mm 1.8:
Super-Tak 50mm 1.4 @ 1.4:
Super-tak 50mm 1.4 @ 1.8:
So there is wide open
now here is @ F2.8:
SMC-tak 55 1.8:
Super-tak 55 1.8:
Super-Tak 50 1.4:
NOW HERE THEY ARE @ F/5.6
SMC-Tak 55 1.8:
Super-tak 55 1.8:
Super-Tak 50 1.4:
AND FINALLY @ F/8
SMC-Tak 55 1.8:
Super-Tak 55 1.8:
Super-Tak 50 1.4:
So, let me know which one looks best to you! there has been NO post processing on these AT ALL! they were taken using my E-pl1 _________________ My Best Lenses (off the top of my head):

Yea, I agree, I think the blueish cast may have been my camera's white balance, I just bought the e-pm1 two days ago and so I may have to tinker with WB and what not... Ive been shooting just film since I got rid of my nikon d90 2 years ago... so its all new to me.
I am surprised how much better the Super-Tak 50 1.4 clears up from 1.4 to 1.8 though. I had heard it was soft at 1.4, couple that with trying to hit focus, even on a tripod, and well yea. at f/8 I kinda prefer the warmth of the 50 1.4 over the SMC...
Which one looks sharpest to you guys at f/5.6? and f/8? _________________ My Best Lenses (off the top of my head):

More than anthing else, your test shows the difference that SMC coating can make, since this is quite a challenging scene, strongly backlit. |
