Just got yet another Helios lens. It seems sharper than my 44M-4.
Some sample shots here, unprocessed. Mostly at f/2.8.

I read a lot of opinions about the classic Helios 58/2, trying to find which was considered the sharpest of the bunch.
The 7 and the 3 were the versions most mentioned. I patiently waited for either to turn up at a reasonable price, the 3 appeared first so I got that one.
I still want to buy a 7 to add to the collection, judging from these shots I'd be right to do so.
I still think, where character is concerned, the older 44-2 is the best. _________________ Gary

Different lens. She is showing examples from the 77m-4 1.8/50, not the 44m-7 2/58. |

congratulations on your new toy and very nice samples.
so you have 3 helios lens, this 77m-4, 44m-4 and 81N.
I have no experience with helios, if all three compared, which is better? in terms of sharpness, bokeh and color produced? _________________ secangkir kopi, sebatang rokok |

From what I've noticed, 44M-4 is not as sharp as 77M-4. Both have very smooth bokeh, the latter could be even smoother. 81N I would put somewhere in between, although my copy seems to have some slightly yellow cast. This is also the only one with infinity focus, so I use it for a bit different shots.
For some processed pictures you can see here:
44M-4 http://www.flickr.com/photos/lena_i/sets/72157630027748471/
81N http://www.flickr.com/photos/lena_i/sets/72157632194168079/
and one from 77M-4 ( no sharpening was needed ) http://www.flickr.com/photos/lena_i/sets/72157632930848323/ |

great macro work with your helios 44m-4, sharp and the colors really pop!
since you said 77M-4 has better sharpness than 44M-4, it would be suitable for macro shot. _________________ secangkir kopi, sebatang rokok |

The light was not outstanding, but I think the lens performed nicely in terms of colours and saturation. |
