The "brutal sharpness of modern lenses". Something I am also cursed with seeing. Often I wish I didn't.

Good article with rotten photo examples, honestly, those pics are all rotten, apart from the rose which is just boring and mundane.

While I wouldn't call them rotten I would blame the editors not the photographer for what's chosen for print, the issue with the rose is its front and centre, a classic mistake.
