Please help me identify this lens. As you might be able to see from the picture that it is missing the plastic ring that normally contains the name of the lens. (does this affect the photographic qualities of the lens or is it purely cosmetic??)
Also any info on the value of it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Below is the mount which looks like a screw thread

Thanks for such a quick reply. Does anyone know if the fact that it is missing the plastic ring that contains the lens info,if this has an effect on the lens or if it is just cosmetic?

It has no value , bring only name of Carl Zeiss Jena nothing else, go for 20% higher than other noname Japanese lens in same focal length in normal case. I think this one is this Cosina rebadged:
If it's like other Cosinas of the same age I've tried it will be so-so in sharpness, muted colours and so-so contrast. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

Thanks so much for the replies...
I intend on selling it so If somebody could help me find the exact specs of the lens it would be a great help....
It seems a lot more like this one than the other ones you have posted about:
http://www.mflenses.com/carl-zeiss-jena-ii-28mm-f28-macro-japanse-version.html
It has a "P" symbol on the rear lens cap.
Can you work out the exact spec from the numbers on the side?
Thanks |

P means on rare cap, not factory made product , made buy a small third party maker probably in China and mark cap P = Pentax screw mount _________________ -------------------------------

No bid history, sold on fixed price , probably for clue less beginner or to seller friend and they both agree to cancel transaction. In this case Ebay refund fee. Sold item will be a good reference as market price and next time real buyer will happily take for half price 80 UKP a 20 ukp value lens. Obvious trick and works. _________________ -------------------------------

There's no Cosina 2.8/50s on ebay UK, but the common Cosina 2/50 in Pentax K mount is a 5-10ukp item.
Here's a similar 'Carl Zeiss' lens with caps and original leather case with 3 days left, this might give some idea of value by it's final sale price:

No, the Japanese 'Carl Zeiss' lenses by Cosina always came with those brown leather cases, that was the best thing about them. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

I did a quick comparison shot with the E mount 24/1.8 and my 28/2.8 and other than FOV and DOF, I didn't see a difference.
E 24/1.8 @ 1.8 ISO 500(Auto ISO)
CZJ 28/2.8 @ 2.8 ISO 1000(Auto ISO)
I did have a similar Cosina 28/2.8 which I never had a chance to use side by side, the Cosina is now seized,
they do have different coatings, and the Cosina had noticeable distortion on my 1DIII, I see none on the NEX-7 with the CZJ. _________________ A Manual Focus Junky...

The discussed 2.8/24mm Cosina gives quite decent results. Mine was branded Exaktar. I doubt Cosina marketing would be so stupid and not use Zeiss brand name on their good product.
