Got a new camera in today and figured I would try to take a 'studio' shot (something that I have not tried previously) and it proved a bit perplexing to me, in regard to shadows and focal point. I also used this as an opportunity to try one of my manual lenses on my Nikon D3, Nikkor 28mm f/3.5. Not the best choice of lenses for this shot, but wanted to see what it would do. Any advice on how to make a shot like this better would be appreciated (I can take constructive criticism - so fire away). I am happy with this purchase as body and both lenses are in wonderful shape showing signs of light use.

This is looks good to me except perspective I would love to see from lower camera position almost in same level with subject.

Looks like you nailed the focus, nice job!

@Attila
I should have used a taller table. Had the camera on a tripod and could not get lower (without pain). I had noticed the perspective to be a bit high.

@Bill
I used the focus confirm on the camera when I shot this. I looked way out of focus in the viewfinder (of course I wasn't wearing my glasses Shocked ). I actually focused on the timer lever, maybe should have focused a bit farther forward.

I intend to get some film and take this baby out for a test drive. Then I can try out my new scanner.
