The local camera shop has got a number of Werra cameras in the window including a Werra 1, a 1a, a 4 and a Werramat e (I think), and one with an external rangefinder on the top. I was going to take a photo through the window but the strong sunlight today made it impossible.

Any recommendations as to the "best" model to look for? Any things to check for? Also, any ideas as to price?

Thanks, Kris.

Earlier ones have a fixed Tessar 2.8/50, you ideally want one that takes interchangeable lenses, there are only two - 35mm Flektogon and 100mm Cardinar, but both are superb (as is the Tessar). I have a Werra III, funny you should ask, I loaded it with film and packed it in a small bag with both extra lenses to use tomorrow.

Look with built in coupled rangefander , Werra 3, Werra 4 , Werra 5. If I remember well Werramatic has not only coupled RF it has lighmeter to and visible in Viewfinder. Werra is best quality RF include lenses what I ever hold.Fascinating creatures.

Made by Zeiss people who were released from Russian captivity.

It has light meter too. screw off lens and check shutter without lens put on + plus take of camera back while test shutter.
Once I bought a Werramatic I just look throw lens from front and I saw leaf shutter works well, but there is another device what is close light path under lens replacement, it was permanently closed what I couldn't recognize with lens on.

Werra 4 has lightmeter, coupled RF a great choice. I bought mine locally approx 40 UKP .

I was given a little bit of money recently and so I weakened and bought the Werra 4 for Ł39. All seems to be working well although a little stiff in places. Th wind-on seems a bit noisy in contrast to the quiet leaf shutter. I've loaded a roll of film and will try it out over the next few days.

One thing I am impressed with is the stunningly clear and sharp rangefinder patch. Easily the best of the admittedly limited group of rangefinders I have used.

I'll post pictures when I get my first roll back.

Cheers, K.
