Hello, First Post to the group, Really hoping that someone can help me understand the M42 to eos adapter. I purchased my first lens 135mm 2.8 and the af Confirm adapter by fotodiox.. I set the adapter and chip to the lens range 135mm and the aperture. But i can't seem to get the focus correct. has anyone had to fine tune these things..

Hi Keith, hopefully your adapter allows you to focus beyond infinity, if so you can add a very thin shim to bring infinity in line. I recently spent an evening doing just that to a dozen of my lenses, it's great to have infinity back. _________________ Gary

Hi Keith, can you expand on that a little? Do you find you can't achieve sharp focus at all at any distance, or just at infinity? Or are you perhaps finding the images aren't in focus when the viewfinder is sharp? _________________ Peter - Moderator |

When I first started using MF lenses with my Canon 400D, the viewfinder and image were never the same. When the Autofocus chip beeped, the viewfinder was blurred. and when the viewfinder was in focus, the image was blurred.
After further investigation, it seems my AF lenses didn't match up either, but I didn't notice that (through laziness probably!)
I changed the focusing screen for a split screen from eBay and they now line up perfectly. Plus I have the advantage of the 45 degree split screen for Manual Focusing. I put the screen in without the factory shims.
You could also play with the shims on the original focusing screen, but keep the originals as they are set up in the factory.
There's a thread on here somewhere about it, I'm sure. |
