I keep sayin' I'm not lookin' for any new gear...but when the deal's there, I can't say no...
Got this puppy this morning for $30 at a thrift shop....
(the aperture leaves are slow to shut down to F16-32, but there's no oil on them
...and of course it's not a problem when used manually on the Canon...as I tend to use 5.6-8 most of the time anyway)
...the focusing barrel is dampened, nice and silky smooth, unlike modern AF barrels
(and likely a lot slower AF than the newer versions...but again not a problem for MF use on my Canon)...
and while it is an AF lens, it has quite a long throw for an AF lens,
(another factor in slow AF when compared to more modern AF lenses),
but that makes for a very capable MF lens...
While not as cult-popular as earlier MF Micro Nikkors, and perhaps not as high an IQ as the newer 60mm AF Micro Nikkor,
this version has the advantage of not having the lubrication problems of the MF Nikkors,
and is cheaper than the newer AF Nikkors...so recommended, especially if you can find it at a low price like I did.
If you have this lens...please add you photos...
...here's a quick test shot @5.6...100% corner crop (only sharpening is 3 on the DPP scale)...
...here are a few more 100% crop test shots (@ 5.6)....the flower cropped from the edge

30$ for a Nikon micro, hell of a bargain. _________________ Gary

This lens was "broken" by a previous owner...gluing the AF/MF ring to MF for some reason...a problem for AF users...NOT for MF users...and not for Canon users who can not AF with the lens in any case...the MF barrel is reasonably dampened so it is easier to MF than more modern AF lenses...
Nikon users' loss is this Canon user's gain....
