Hi All,
we have some smart people here so am hoping for some help. A friend of mine (no its NOT me) has a tamron lens he bought with his nikon digital, think the camera is a d3000 or somthing like that. When he bought the camera they convinced him to buy this tamron lens, a macro i think, as expensive as the camera i believe. Thing is, he was focussing or doing somthing else with it one day and twisted it to far, needless to say it is fecked up. my question is, can it be repaired, is it worth repairing, can anyone do it? it is only a mechanical problem i assume, he never used it as such so nothing wrong with lens etc. Any help, advice greatly appreciated.

I've got a Sigma AF zoom of some sort or another for Minolta AF, and trying to get a stuck filter off I was twisting the filter like the Hulk on steroids thinking I'd got the barrel of the lens gripped in the other hand. I hadn't, it was up against the focusing stop, and although I got the filter off the lens stopped auto focusing. So I left it, it wasn't a lens I used.
Maybe six months later I tried it again, and much to my surprise - it worked perfectly, and still does.

My guess is that along with the mechanical stop there's an electrical contact - which will be a mechanically weak contact that might spring back into position. It's the only thing that I can think of that happened with this Sigma

Contact Tamron and ask if they will examine the lens and quote for a repair.

I think the 5 year guarantee only applies to lenses from 2010, this was bought 3-4 years ago. Yo lloydy, i dunno if that will work but i will ask him to try it, this thing is dead though Sad
