I was lucky enough to become the owner of the legendary original Carl Zeiss Jena Olympia Sonnar T 180mm f2.8 lens. Model Year 1943. Single coating.

Very good lens in my opinion. It is very pleasant to use.

All photos on f2.8. Without processing. Camera Canon 5D mark 2

Model Alena

Well I just can't get used to your shots that look too bright to me, so I choose pretty Alena leaning on the fence which looks correctly exposed on my monitor.

another great series !

I just understand that all your series are straight from the camera, without editing
it is a great reference to compare lens
and you put lenses in hard situation, wide open against sun
indeed the Olympia is a fantastic lens and it leave noting to edit in poposhop

I never look for a 180 2.8 because of the weight (1.3 kg), you must be very strong to find it pleasant to use

Thanks! Yes you are right. I specifically do not process these images. To be able to see the result directly from the camera.

About weight. Weight of my version about 1,1kg and well balanced if use camera with battery handle Smile))

As explaining for me, this lens block can to cover even a medium format. In 1945, after the Second World War several dozen Sonnar 180 lens blocks, was gone in the Soviet Union as reparations. In USSR original lens block was insert in a new rim with M42 screw mount by unknown specialist (it seems on the optical factory). I have bought this lens with m42 mount and correct FFD for M42. I do not know how this doing, but any compensation lens not used. This rim absolutely not similar on rims what used on Jupiter-6/Jupiter 6-2

Great series and results. I'm not sure I'd say the lens was balanced on a gripped 5Dii though; at least not when I use the same combo.

Looks to me a hybrid early post war or late prewar Jena front block and Russian back right ? Back from Jupiter-6 ?
