I thought I'd share a couple of lens porn images of a FED 50mm f/2 I bought yesterday Smile The final picture was taken with the lens itself, stopped down and with lots of added contrast...

Nice, is the Fed a pre-war lens? Never seen one in the Uk before.

It's hard to specify the year, but it actually appears in the sovietcams.com list above (by it's previous UK owner) and I'd guess it was 1939/1940.

I have so many lenses to try out, it's not funny anymore! It's a lens for B&W for sure, and I think it's going to need an improvised hood. If I get the chance (before I sell it) I'll post the results on here.

Very nice results!

I also recieved a very nice FED-S with f:2.0 / 50mm recently and when searching for information on this lens, I came arcoss this great forum. Since I love using old lenses on modern digital cameras I registered and this is my first post.
Here is a picture of my FED-S with 2.0/50mm:

When attaching it to my Sony A9 via Voigtländer VM-E Close focus adapter + Leica M/M39 adapter, I noticed that I couldn't focus to infinity. The old pre war FED cameras and lenses are not yet standardized to the Leica flange distance of 28.8mm. It is more like 28.5mm (not exactly measured). So I bought a cheap chinese M39/Sony E adapter and grinded it down to enable infinity focus.

Here are some first examples with the A9 + FED 2/50mm:

This is at f:2.6:

I'm really surprised how good this lens performs despite being almost 90 years old and uncoated!
You can btw. find all my pictures on flickr in full resolution.

Best regards,
Alex

The FED 2/50mm also can be used at close up distances with extension ring with very nice results:

This was taken at full aperture! Isn't this a lovely rendering?

Being an uncoated design of 6 elements in 4 groups this lens is of course very prone to flare. However, it is less bad than I had expected. Even if shooting directly into the sun you don't get a complete white-out:

This was taken wide open.

By the way, my avatar image is a handhold selfie with the FED 2.0/50mm on the Techart LM-EA9 autofocus adapter. The lens was used wide open.

No, it is a 6e/4g double Gauss if the data on allphotolenses is correct.
