My go-to rig for moon photography. With the Dx crop factor, I get a total of 36x magnification (over my FF D850) which enables me to fill the frame with the moon. I caught this waning gibbous moon the other night. ISO 200, 1/200 sec @ f/5.6

Very good detail! How have you managed to fix such a short exposure with low ISO and narrow diaphragm?

I mean that I often see 1/4 or 1/2 exposure in moon shots, with higher ISO. ISO 200 with f5.6 at night sounds pretty counter-intuitive with 1/200.

UPD: I looked through some threads to clear out that I had a wrong impression before writing this message. It's a usual matter for moon shots to take them at 1/125 with f8-f11 at low ISO. So, everuthing is regular in the OP settings. It's just a bit unusual for someone who got accustomed to shoot in the street, where in the evening at ISO 400-800, with f2 to f4 the exposure tends to 1/4-1/30.

Just as there is a BSD (Bright Sunny Day) rule of thumb, 1/ASA (ISO) @ f/16, there is a rule of thumb for shooting the moon. It is very similar to the BSD one, in that it is 1/ASA (ISO) @ f/8-11 depending on how much moon is showing.
