Hello everybody,
I'm new to this forum and I'm not quite sure if I'm in the right place here, because my question is not about a lens, but about fixing an old Pentax Spotmeter V light meter.
I'm currently trying to repair the lamp, which isn't working properly, and I can't define the cause. The bulb itself, outside the circuit seems to be working and still very bright, but in the meter, it is so dim that it gives practically no light, if it works at all.
Does anyone here have perchance any experience with this, or knowledge how to repair this?
Any information is welcome, as well as schematics, if they exists for this version.
I'm trying by the way to identify an electronic component in the meter, I' ve already posted it on a couple of forums, but nobody seems to know what it is.
I measured it with my elementary multimeter and it reads '178 Ohm', so I still presume that it is a resistor of some sort. Of course, my reading can be faulty and/or the component itself malfunctioning...
Thank you in advance,
Best Regards,
Chris |

Welcome, Chris.
I can't help you myself, but I can suggest some possibilities:
Do you know about Eric Hendrickson? He's a Pentax film camera repair specialist in the U.S.

And have you tried asking at pentaxforums.com? You'd get more views there than you will here.

Hello Tim, thank you for your reply. I'm from Belgium (Europe) so the trouble is that it will cost almost as much to send it to America (and back) than buying a new one. And I already posted on Pentax forum with not much result. |

I have cleaned the light switch but not with much result, I still think it is the circuit. Here is the picture of the component. It is a 10th of an inch, brownish of color with a white (or greyish) stripe painted on it. This component is between the yellow wire coming from the contact going straight to the lamp. I think it is a resistor, some say a thermistor, others a capacitor. My measurement of it gives 178 ohm. The weird part is that my meter reads the light, and quite accurately, I have compared it with a digital Sekonic reflected light meter and a gray card. But the so-called 'illuminator' for low light situations is not functioning like it should. Also: does anyone knows how to open the bottom plate of this spotmeter? It has something to do with loosen the spanner screw above the tripod screw,I can see it , but I can't access it. |
