Gotten from the web:

How can I clean fungus off lens elements?

One excellent cleaner for fungus (Olympus factory uses this)
is Ponds Cold Cream (or facsimile). Really. Rub a tiny dab
into the lens with your finger tip YES FINGER TIP, then clean
off with denatured alcohol. If fungus "spider web" remains,
reapply cream and rub harder, clean with alcohol again. I know
this sounds funny, but this is how the FACTORY SERVICE STATIONS
ARE TRAINED TO DO IT! Do this at your own risk, the faint at
heart should not attempt this.

Anyone heard about this before?
Anyone wishing to try it?.

Best regards,
Jes.

Absolutely. That and nose oil (skin oil from the tip of your nose where
you have lots of oil glands. Skin oil apparently has anti-fungal
properties). Both taught to me by none other than our resident
repairman, John Hermanson.

I don’t know about the cold cream but the nose oil was the Oly factory
recommended method JH learned in Oly repair school. I think his
recommendation for cold cream was “Pond’s” brand but my wife didn’t have
any. I just used whatever brand was in her vanity drawer. Worked fine.
Just put a bit on your finger tip, rub it in lightly, wipe the cold
cream off with a tissue and then clean off any residue with a bit of
rubbing alcohol. The “repair” has lasted for at least 5 years with no
signs of damage or fungal return.

He is reported but I don't believe it.

What this method does not care about, is that together with nose oil, your finger will gather things like dead cells, vitamins, etc. all stuff that may easily become the cradle for new fungal growth.
So as far as my opinion is concerned... I think this method is "bull s***" and more a potential trojan horse than a solution.

Where do you get enough "nose oil" from?
I mean, my nose does not a drop of oil constantly wiggling downwards...

If some day I get a broken-beyond-repair lens, full of fungus, I will do a test, but for now I will stick to traditional methods...
Best regards,
Jes.

Because you are a clean person. Wink
People who wash their faces with soap 2-3 times per day must necessarily have trouble of getting much of "nose oil".
Another good reason to forget about this antifungus technique!

If I remember correctly from the time I was doing B&W lab, the "nose oil" was used to recover scratched negatives ... I was a teen back then, skin oil was abundant Wink

Ok can't pass this up. Another use is for diper rash. one half ponds face cream one third maalox ( anti acid ) mix till it looks like a smooth paste. The anti acid has more aluminum oxide than any prsecription ointment.
Works great.Cool
