Hi all,
I'm looking for a 28mm lens for my crop body (canon) and I'm considering a Takumar 28mm f3.5 or a Yashica ML 28 mm f2.8 . I was wondering if you guys had any other suggestions for this local length? I'm looking for something under 80-90e as I'm on a budget. If possible, can you specify the type of mount and the average price of each lens?
Thank you very much in advance |

for the money vs quality i found most yashica ml primes were close to the best on my old 5d. whats also good about them is they are contax mount, like the zeiss planars and distagons, so they have fleibilty in terms of long term acquiring several top notch lenses to use on the same adapter. also, contax has some nice inexpensive film cams to use these great lenses as well. you cant go wrong woth contax mount lense!

Pentacon 2.8/28 is very good, it's very cheap too, 20-30 eu at most. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

Oh damn, I forgot about that, thanks for the correction!
There is another 28mm I would recommend that is also very cheap - the Tokina/Hoya 2.8/28, but as your budget is 8o-90eu you can find slightly better I think, but for 10-20eu it fetches, the Tokina/Hoya is a steal. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

Why not get something like the Hoya or RMC Tokina that Ian has suggested and then spend the rest of your cash on another 3 or 4 lenses? We'll get you addicted in no time
The Nikon 28/2.8 is very good too apparently but is at the top end of your budget. _________________ Graham - Moderator

So is 28/2.8 Hoya made by Tokina? What about other Hoya lenses? I am quite a fan of those, especially 135mm/f2.8 is super cute. I have Hoya 28/f2.8 and it's quite a fun lens. Here are my impressions of it

Yes, all the Hoya primes are Tokinas, most of the zooms, if not all are too.
Avoid the 3.5/200 though, it's awful with terrible CA. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

I already have it. It has some CA, but all 200mm lenses short of Canon L's have it to some degree. Hoya is far from being awful. Pretty usable lens IMHO. |

Far more verstile than these f/3.5 lenses and I doubt they are sharper at F/8. Not heavy either.
Comes in many mounts, about 125USD _________________ Making MFlenses safe for the letter *L* |

The Konica Hexanon EE 3.5/28 is stunning and only 30-50eu. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |
