My 5D brought back to use

With heavy scratches in the sensor, I was barely using it. Replacing the damaged part (the filter over the sensor) was very expensive.
I was in doubt of letting it die pacefully or invest a big amount to recover it.
At the end I was selling some of my stuff and finally decided to get it a new life.

This is my first shot after repair, with the 50mm 1.8 II lens: (I refused to clone the dirt on the window glass).

So I'm afraid I'll be using it heavily in the next times...

Regards.
Jes.

Excellent portrait, Jes! I'm amazed by the quality from the little EF 50/1.8 II!

Every EOS user should have a 50/1.8 II, great bang for buck.

Thanks for your comment, Bill. I have it since the 350D, and it's a keeper.

Thanks, Poilu.
Yes, it was really expensive, more than actually buying the NX100 + 20-50mm + 50-200mm.
The amazing thing is that the price of the part (the filter) was minimal, and what was really expensive was the technician time and the taxes....

Doesn't the glass have to be replaced in a dust free environment? I expect you'll find out when you stop the lens down how successful the repair was.

How did it get scratched?

It was worth it Jes , I look forward to seeing more from this camera.

Hi Martin, I sent it to an official Canon repair center, so I expect them to accomplish with all the environmental requests. From the first shots it seems to be nicely done, the cleanest sensor views that I ever had. I use to test the sensor with this same lens (50mm 1.8 II) against a well lighted A4 white paper at f22.

The sensor filter was already damaged when I bought the cam second hand. It had a black spot that I used to clone.
I tried to cleanup the sensor with Isopropylic alcohol and a self made cleaning stick, but I did not an enough carefull work and schatched the filter with one of the extremes of the stick, and since I passed over several times, there were too many scratches to clone in the pictures. From now on I'll keep the sensor as clean as possible by minimizing the lens swaps and being much careful. In the past I survived just blowing air, so I'll do the same in the future. A professional cleaning costs only 36€, once per year can be spent.

You now have a very nice camera. I am always amazed at the quality of pictures the 50 fl1.8 gives. It seems the Nikon equivalent does the same.

Tamron 90 is great with the 5D. All the CZJs in my experience really stand out too.

Great job, Jes !

If I had scratched my sensor I would feel very very bad.
I imagine you ere and can imagine the pleasure and happiness when you fully recoverd it.

Your first picture with it back shows it is very happy to be alive again.
Rebirth of a 5D should be your 1st picture's title !

I'm happy for you. Very Happy
