The A700 is a beast of a camera and very very good, I love the way it feels in my hand, I also have the A55 but its small and feels like a bridge camera, the A700 is just fantastic.
I am sure you will enjoy it a lot.

it feels less solid compared to my d300s, dials feel plastic (there's a slight contact failure in the front dial, one particular "click" rushes up and down in the menu), grip is nice but it's less rubbery as nikons, IQ wise I haven't tested it yet but I think they're about the same having the same sensor...
