What do you think about this lens?

I know that all Zuiko lens are good but how about this one? Good performance?

And about it price?

My favourite lens for portraiture with a 4/3 body. A bit ugly and soft wide open but best at f2 - 2.8 for me.

Won't be cheap, that's for sure.

Seen a moment ago on ebay, starting price at 300$. I have a Zuiko 1.4 50mm and it's already very good and bright.
The 55mm seems thought a very good lens to add in a collection Cool

You can get from 200 EUR one of the weakest 1.2 lens , Pentax, Nikkor ,Tomioka, Minolta all are better. Pentax 1.2 sharpest wide open if you need superfast lens.

I had Nikkor 1.2, Revuenon (Cosina), and Pentax I kept Pentax oh I have Konica 1.2 too.

YES.

I don't think so good idea to pay 300+ for a soft lens wide open. Even cheapest Cosina is better or same and you can get around 100 EUR.

Do you really need 1.2 ?

Both samples are very nice. That second shot has some magic going on though. Nicely captured regardless of the lens.

Ivo, My opinion is if you want a 1.2 lens in this price range. Go for the Rokkor 1.2/58 (easy to adapt to Eos or buy an adapted one). I find it much smoother in OOF areas and sharper wide open.
The later Zuiko 1.2/50 is an improvement from the earlier 1.2/55 but still no rokkor. For a lesser price and still excellent performance search for the Nikkor sc 1.2/55.

Ah yes, Nikkor S.C I did forget , nice lens too!

Many thanks for your comments.

My friend asked me for 200€ but if you say that this one isn't as good as I thought I'll pass it...

I'll look for a better one later.. Smile

Pass.......
I bought my Nikkor SC for $250 and sold it for the same. It is not uncommon to find it for this price. A much sharper lens if sharpness is what you want.
f1.2 is rarely important. Buy a 1.2 lens for the signature it has rather than speed.
That is why I suggest the Rokkor. It is a very beautiful image maker. Of course I suppose Express shows us in his samples that the Zuiko can be also Wink

'Horses for courses' ! It depends how you're going to use it - for some the zuiko is ideal, hence the price, for others it's far from ideal.
If you want a zuiko, the 50/1.2 is much sharper wide open and as Attila says... so are most of the others.
I guess the best way is to try a few... Cool

If you can find a MC Rokkor 58/1.2, recommended. It is fast and sharp, and
has certain character (hard to describe), though mount may be a problem.

What means those numbers, Koji?

If they are l or pl/mm, so the smaller is the less sharper.

I can't understand.

Rino.

Nice chart my "laser precise" Wink eyes said SMC Pentax sharpest (have to go to buy some lottery.. ) also I thought Nikkor right after....

Konica is better than last one I believe.

Rino, I have no idea what those numbers are. Very Happy Very Happy

But my humble experience generally agrees with this ranking, though
I did not use Pentax 50/1.2 nor Noctilux 50/1.0.

Now that is worth. Thanks

How good is Zuiko 50/1.2 compared with these? It is even more expensive than 55/1.2 , but if is it also bad, it wouldn´t be good investment. I´m considering it as a portrait lens, not a reportage one for night shots.

Are you sure you need an f1.2 lens as a portrait lens?
The DoF is veeeeeery short, so you easily misfocus.
And If you plan to use the lens at f2 most of the time, you could save some serious money by buying an f1.4 lens (e.g. Zukos 1.4/50, Nikkor 1.4/50 etc.)
