Took this with me to photograph kingfishers the other day, I was too close for my soligor 400mm to focus so lucky I brought it. Not all that impressed with it to be honest, not easy to focus and not overly sharp.

That's a lens with a good reputation, I've got one with a bit of fungus - I've rarely used it - but it always seems to be sharp.

Good pictures though, maybe it's a question of getting used to the lens ?

perhaps your right, but I did take over 400 shots and I didn't get many keepers, perhaps the harsh light didn't help, and they were hand held shots maybe I should try it with a tripod.
