Anyone with any experience with this lens. I will be receiving this soon. Its reportedly a Tmount/M42 mount.

Heres the only image I have of the lens.

There were tons of such lens produced during the late 60s and 70s. Most were merely OK.

It looks much like my Soligor 3.5/200
If it's the same, it is a very good lens, I'd even call it excellent if compared to the price.
(I paid mine 13 euros Very Happy )
A bit glowing wide open, but already sharp and useable
Also very convenient for traveling because of low value and because lightweight
(compared to other 200 mm lenses)

Yes, it looks 'Soligorish', and there is something to be said for 'disposable' equipment. I owned a similar lens at one point, a 200mm Soligor, back in the late 60s. If you own expensive equipment you are always worried about damage or loss.

Doesn't look like my Soligor 3.5/200 at all.

What's that knob marked A-L for?

It does bear similarities to the Soligor , more Kalimar ,Fujita like -regardless I will be sure to post results when I receive it.

I'll have to figure out what the A<-->L knob does then Ian.

Judging by where the knob is, I'm guessing it's a focus lock and L stand for Lock, just a guess though!

My Soligor 3.5/200 is the same as this one:

Oh, my Soligor is in a sorry state, mount is missing and it is full of fungus, it came as part of a large box full of old lenses, most of which were junk but some turned out to be very good (Hoya HMC 2.8/28 primarily). I am going to throw my Soligor in the recycling bin, not much use for anything.

Look forward to your samples!

I had a similar Kaligar 2.8/135 for a while.
Not bad lens.. it needs to be stopped one click in order to get rid of the CA.

The aperture blades were somehow misaligned and had a funny shape.

That Soligor 200 is the same as mine, I like it. The colours are good and it's reasonably sharp. Better than a lot of other lens' I've tried in the 200 range.

Auto/maual aperture at a guess?

I received this lens a few days ago-and have not had the chance to carry it out for any trials. I am still baffled by the A<-> knob, as it appears to do nothing. Its either not functioning as it should or I am not using it properly. Very Happy Very Happy

This is what I received.

Thanks

Hmmm.....a mystery knob. Should it be turned or not? Maybe it will become clear it's function when it is used on a camera. Confused

I have a 135 just like this. Interesting to see a 200mm version.

I don't know the maker, but this is a very special lens.

The A-L button is part of a unique mechanism. This is a preset lens with extra-rapid stopdown. If its working, mine just works sometimes.

On "A", the aperture remains wide open until you press it - that stops it down to the taking aperture.
On "L" the aperture is manual.

Have a close look at the aperture leaves - the mechanism is quite complex.

The idea is I suppose to more quickly stop down using the hand operating the focus ring.

Ah found it -

Mine is in Aetna brand.

That was very nice of you to dig through your posts . Its the same knob , and the knob mine is not working like it should or needs to be fixed. The busted knob maybe a good thing for me, as the aperture is in manual mode perpetually-and works wonderfully.

If the tinkerer in me gets inquisitive ,I may open it up to see if I can revive the knob.

Thanks Luis Very Happy

Theres also already a post of this (200mm) lens (with Soligor branding and Konica AR Mount) here:
http://forum.mflenses.com/viewtopic,p,1154372.html#1154372
It's made by Tokina

PostPosted: Wed Nov 30, 2011 6:33 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

These pseudo-automatic lenses are substantially different from known models of either preset or automatic Tokinas of the 1960's

Among other things, they focus in the opposite direction, have different character types in their lettering, have different focus scales - more compressed turning ratio, etc.

They could be Tokinas, of a very special unique sort that did not share many characteristics with the normal ones, but I am skeptical.

Got some samples -with this lens mounted on Sony Alpha 700-all taken wide open.
The minium focus distance is 12ft.
