Obviously this one is better than the 21 f4 for use on crop cameras. The corners don't have importance when cropping and the form factor is much better.
Would be nice to see this one head to head against the 21 f4 in 24x36 format. I'm keepeing one 21 f4 and a 15 f2.8 in my closet just in case someday I can use them on digital. |

...but the people wont know what to buy unless they can get advice from someone........if I wanted to buy a 20mm lens for up to £300, I would be searching MFlenses and the net to see what other people think. _________________ Canon A1, AV1, T70 & T90, EOS 300 and EOS300v, Chinon CE and CP-7M. This last shot suffers badly from perspective distortion, not the fault of the lens. The buildings leaning outwards on the other side of the river can easily be corrected in PS, but I couldn't correct the sloping tops of the copings on the parapet walls at the sides of the steps in the bottom of the frame. These look unreal to me _________________ Peter - Moderator |

Yes, that is fine. A good Flektogon 20mm f2.8 M42 can be good as than best ones, problem is many of them just nice good lens, but not exceptional.
A good cityscape landscape picture say much more to me than test shoots.
my very subjective rank is next on good wide angle lenses.

I didn't notice that, I was looking at the riverbank and it's straight, that tells me what I need to know - it is sufficiently free from distortion in that axis that I could stitch shots made with it. Well spotted Peter, you have a good eye. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

Tokina 3.5 17mm is excellent, I would say it probably fits into second level, if not, upper end of third level, I love my copy and shoot it a lot, very sharp, very little distortion, great colours, contrast, bokeh. Has a tiny bit of CA but only on the harshest highlights, in most shots CA is not there. Even flare resistance is good for a ultra wide, just all-round a great lens. Sharpness is so good I don't think my shots with it suffer much by comparison to my Hexanon 3.5/28 and that lens is a razor. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |
