Do you mean F1.7?

The 100mm F3.5 is often available for less.

And Planar 50 1.7? Is it a good lens?

Not as sharp at as the 50mm F1.4 at their common apertures but still quite good for the money. I've seen some stunning images from it.

The 28/2.8 MM is extremely good.

JJ

The Distagon 28/2.8 definitely is one with great value for money. I got mine for 220 euros. Excellent contrast and colors.

I also recently got a Contax Planar 50/1.4 MM from ebay for 225 euros BIN. Kind of a lucky grab. I believe the 50/1.7 is a worthy alternative (if you don't mind the 60cm min. focus distance vs 45cm on the 50/1.4).

The 2.8/28 and both 50mm lenses are really great and shoulb be available under 300€.

I haven't used the Distagon 2.8/35, Sonnar 2.8/85 and Sonnar 2.8/135 but I haven't heard much negative opinions about those.

If you don't mind Zooms the VS 3.4/35-70 is really good.

Vario-Sonnar T* 3.5-5.6/28-80?

PostPosted: Tue Sep 13, 2011 3:12 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

The 28-80mm lens is for the N system and won't fit DSLRs without major modification.

Most of the best T* under 300 euros have already been mentioned:

28/2.8 Distagon
35/2.8 Distagon
50/1.4 Planar
50/1.7 Planar
85/2.8 Sonnar
135/2.8 Sonnar

You might be able to grab an 80-200/4 Vario-Sonnar at that price too...an excellent lens indeed.

I add the 3.5/100 Sonnar and the 35-70 Vario
But you can't go wrong with any of Contax CY lenses - unless they're damaged.
That's what makes the difference in my opinion between the Contax CY line and the other lines of manual focus SLR lenses:
you can find several single lenses in the other lines that are better than the corresponding Contax lens; but considering the whole catalogue,
I don't know of another line of SLR lenses where the quality level is so constantly high in all the items of the catalogue.

+1. Unfortunately there are no manufacturers anymore with such a complete, affordable and incredibly great performing lineup. Samyang does have some gems and Voigtländer has some as well but they are mostly still above 300 euros.

I'm honeymooning at the moment (so shouldn't be on here Laughing ) and am using my Vario-Sonnar 35-70mm as the standard walkabout. If, and it's a big if, anyone can grab one for under 300 euros then get it! It's so sharp!
