Does anyone know how to open Canon L-mount lenses?

My Canon 50/1.2(L) seems to have fungus somewhere in the rear block.

This is the first time one of my lenses developed fungus infested. Crying or Very sad

Koji, I have 50/1.0L parts catalog showing exploded views, maybe helpful. PM if you want it, so I can attach to message (only 114KB).

Isn't 50/1L is EF-mount lens? My 50/1.2 is L-mount one.

Ah, yes, the 50/1.2L is EF mount. But do you mean FD mount not L-mount? I don't know L-mount! Embarassed

I do see a youtube video of FD 50/1.2L converted to SA mount, maybe there is record of the conversion process?

Thanks everyone, the lens is old and hard to find its service manual.
I may have to ask someone to clean it.

Koji - all starts with turning the mount

Can you post the rear part of the lens and I would show you how to start.

first of all -- you need a screwdriver - small of course Smile

and you need to press both pins as shown - but at the same time or firstly one and turn a bit and then second one and then turn until the aperture is fully open - a little force need to be applied but be gentle Smile

Thanks Stan, but my lens is Canon L-mount 50/1.2 for range finder cameras.

Further inspection seems to indicate the lens has separation in the rear block,
so not good prospect for the life of this lens I think.

There seems to be some confusion here. Koji is referring to an L-mount lens, as in Leica mount, aka LTM, L39 or inaccurately M39:

http://www.pbase.com/kkawakami/image/98167774

I admit the combination of Canon and L is normally not referring to the mount, and Canon confused things by making 50 f/1.2 lenses in threedifferent mounts (L39, FD and EF).

I can't help with the original question, my only Canon 50mm f/1.2 L is in FD mount..

Edit: I see Koji's reaction crossed with mine.

argh! I didn't realize that.

I can not help then Cool.

I have never held any Canon with Leica mount.

Thanks a lot, ZoneV. It is hard to read the descriptions for each photo.

The first step is not clear to me, just take off bevel side first? There is no
easy way to take the mount side I think. I will try it myself.

Thought that bad looking text could be from my not really working Acrobat reader.

But I found better:

Now I understand. I cleaned my lens, was very easy things to do.

My lens has haze, not separation luckily. It is now 99.7 % original clean,
there is some mark in the surface. But it does not affect image quality.

Thanks again, ZoneV. I love this lens not because its sharpness but
associated with my memory with it. From 20 to 25 years old, I used
this lens with my brother-on-law's Canon 7 (lens too of course).

Just testing the lens @f1.2.

Firefox crashed some 8 times this evening, I deleted some of the tabs with no DIY, and one of the 20 tabs I looked at, was with that 50/1.2 Smile I suppose it is open since 6 months...
