So this classic twosome arrived at my house via FedEx today. Two questions...

1 - Can you tell what the two lenses are?

2 - If you have owned both and feel like it, tell me which one did you prefer and why?

OR

2 - If you only own or owned one of these, how do you rate it?

I'm pretty stoked, both are in very good condition, total tab came out to $100 each.

Bokina and Kiron 105/2,8 for each $100, that's a steal
Bokina said to be sharper at wideopen
Kiron has 1:1 without any tube while Bokina not
I have the Kiron, it's excellent lens

I'm sure you have seen the 2.5/90 Series 1 posts. Superb lens. For me, one of those top five would never part with. Crazy razor sharp from f/2.5.

correct. I didn't get the tube with glass for the Bokina, but I have other tubes I can use to explore the Macro potential. Good to hear you think so highly of the Kiron. I think it's maybe the only 1:1 lens I have that doesn’t require a tube!

Yes, I have Woodrim. Although I don't remember seeing your work with it, so I'll have to do some searching. Have you ever had the Kiron? I'm sure you could do much greater things than I with this hardware!

The Tokina A-TX 90/2.5 is optically identical to the Vivitar Series 1 90/2.5, Tokina made the 90/2.5 for Vivitar and sold their own version later on. The only IQ-difference is due to better lens coatings in the Tokina version.

No, never had the Kiron, but have read good things about it. I can only speak of the 90mm and had first posted several years ago. I found at the time, and commented about it, that this wonderful lens got very little attention from MFL people. Over time a few more people got it and today it gets more recognition here. By now you will have noticed how solid and well built it is and how smoothly the focus turns. Just a great, solid lens. Razor sharp and smooth, creamy bokeh. It has been rare that I use the 1:1 adapter. I will use the lens for its close focusing, which for my needs is plenty good enough, and I use it for general photography where it also shines.

Here are some shots that demonstrate different uses... the full album here: http://www.pbase.com/mdlempert/vivitar90s1

Stunning work, Woodrim! So you're the one I can blame for the high prices of this lens Smile It's part of the Holy trio of Series 1 primes, along with the 135/2.3 and the 200/3 and now I've got them all!

Thank you for pointing me to that thread. It's a really interesting comparison. I've read lots about Tokina versus the Vivitar 90/2.5... tokina bought the rights back to the design as Vivitar fizzled, Tokina just built it without licensing, Tokina denied there was any connection between the two, the Tokina is sharper, etc... It's fascinating stuff, wouldn't mind having the Tokina for, if nothing else, the fact it is a newer lens.

Thanks. Just demonstrates the lens' capabilities. Congratulations on owning the three best from the Series 1 line.

Thanks. They seem to have stayed pretty steady in price. I paid $60-ish for my 2.3/135, $100 for 2.5/90, and $100 for 3/200. That makes two of them the most expensive lenses I own.

Yes, and be sure to check out SonicScot's bird-in-flight photos with FF. Great pop in those shots.

I've already seen them and was amazed. The nailed focus and the surreal dof gave them this beautiful quality beyond anything I've seen. if Vivitar were still a legit company and not just re-branding cheap junk, I am sure I would be able to meet Scot during his appearance at my local camera shop on his U.S. tour promoting their product.
