I have read a lot of good things about Pen-f lenses.
I'm about to buy me into the system with the 100mm f3.5.
But I have to buy an adapter again to use it on my Fuji X-E1.
Is this lens worth it ? How good/sharp is it compared to m42 and c/y lenses ?
Can it compete with more modern 100mm like Zeiss, Takumar... ?

difficult to say how it would compare to a Zeiss or to a Takumar which btw. would be of abt. the same vintage, but I can say that it is a very good lens, very recommended
here my samples, note that most 'cosplay' photos had 'clarity' reduced in PP to give a dreamy look: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kuuan/sets/72157628364071135/

Thx kuaan. Your pictures are the main reason I got very interested in this lens. I saw them before on flickr.
You seem one of the only ones with pictures taken with this lens:)
They look so special and good and they have a nice pop. Wow.

Can u please answer a few questions :
1) does it cover ASP-C sensor (vignetting) ?
2) Is it sharp wide open ? Center or corner to corner ?
3) how is contrast ?

Do a search on this forum. There are several threads with samples from this lens here. An excellent performer, highly recommended. Not very flare resistant though as it is single coated.

The lens covers aps-c, it is sharp wide open and I find the contrast excellent as long as you don't shoot against the light.

oh, great to know that you had seen and liked my samples Smile
Pontus has answered your questions better than I could! Let me repeat:
- there is no vignetting with the 100mm. Halfframe actually is still a bit larger than APS-C, only the wide angles show some vignetting.
- like most Pen-F lenses sharpness wide open is very impressive
- contrast is average resp. low if shot against light, like Pontus mentioned coating is not best but to me it seems that this more often matters with the wide angles, not much trouble with the 100mm

most importantly images look pleasant with a vintage edge, it's small and light needing only a short adapter, is as if made for a NEX Wink

I see you decided to go for it, congrats! Smile

if the price is right of course go for it!
the 38mm is an amazing lens, personally I don't know of any f2/35mm lens that is as sharp wide open like the Pen-F 1.8/38, only rivaled by the Pen-F 1.4/40 Wink Should mention that it has a characteristic lively bokeh which, depending on the subject, may disturb but also add a special touch, great for colorful, happy, lively photos

Asking price for the 100/3.5 and the 35/1.8 is 190 euros.
The 100mm is in very good condition. The glass of the 38mm is also in good condition.
Only it has a few minor drops of oil on the aperture blades. The rest is clean.
Is this a good price and are the oil drops a big problem?

I agree, 190 Euro is a good price, specially if there are any original caps included, specially the rear caps sell quite expensively, you could not save if you bought them from me ( yes, I have sold a few 38mm and a 100mm, the copies I have for sell right now may be reserved, must check that, anyway if anybody is interested I can help Wink )

The oil should not be a problem, resp. it is fairly easy to open the lens to clean the blades, some experience of servicing lenses before attempting is recommended though

The 38mm has original front and rear caps.Smile
The 100mm has rear cap(no front), but includes original storage box and (sun)hood.
