Some examples of the unique bokeh rendering of this lens (Helios 44-2 on canon 5D mark II):

The helios bokeh ready add the complexity to these simple objects. Lovely done.

Typical H-44, very sharp in the centre but the corners are quite soft on that flat-field view of the wall. And this is from a crop camera. The circle of sharpness in the centre expands quickly as you stop down. This lens can do better than these pics show.

I own two M42 normal lenses that aren't Takumars -- a Helios M44 58/2 and a Yashica DX 50/1..7. I gotta admit that, while the Helios is an excellent lens, the Yashica is slightly better. But they are very close.

Here's a self portrait I took a whle back with the Helios on a hot summer day. Canon EOS XS, Helios 44M, ISO 100.
