I have this lens Smile It's a good 1:2 macro lens (great color, detail and contrast), which can also serve to other purposes occasionally and portrait even. It is not very heavy, I like you do not need hood.

Yes, it is a very fine lens.
DOF is often tricky at close quarters.

Spotted this little fungus on my way to the shed.
A quick picture handheld with the Canon FD 50mm macro on Nikon D300.

I'm curious. How did you fit a Canon lens onto a Nikon.

There is an adapter to allow these.

Since the lens is macro anyway, the adapter works as an extension tube.
Works quite well.

The FD 50/3.5 macro is a great lens, but I can't recommend it for model photography, unless your model wants the pores in her skin counted. Taken with a Canon F-1 on Kodachrome 64:
