One of my favourite lenses!

Cool! I've got that lens, too, but I don't have a digital body that can use it. I used to use it on a D50.

Set aperture first and connect lens after to body, if you need to change aperture , disconnect lens first set aperture and connect after I did use it on this way on D50.

I've tried that on my D300, but it won't go on! It was a tight fit on the D50, but it's a no-go on the D300!

Interesting because Nikon mount is Nikon mount. I have read somewhere above D50 easily to damage some kind of lever with older lenses.

Yes, as far as i know, any mount "pre AI" wont work on Nikon D300..especially Nikon F-Mount is dangerous and can damage the cam

Some pre-AI will and some won't, for various reasons, apparently. I have a 105mm K that works fine. I've thought about AI-ing the 85mm ... maybe I'll get around to it some day.

I was going to AI this "H" until I found the factory modified "K"

The above shots were taken with the "H" intentionally at a distance to check for IQ at 100% crop...I think it passed...

Wow, the parrot shot and the white bird are stunning!

What is the distinct character of this old lens compared to Nikkor 85/1.4 Ais?
I haven't tried any Nikkor 85mm yet.

In the intervening time, I've been using my 85mm f1.8 K on a D5200 and a D5500. This lens is amazing on the D5500. But these were taken with my F2. The boy was in South Africain 1987. The musicians were in Seattle a couple of years ago.

I'll never understand the negative commentary this lens and the "K" variant get from those that set themselves up as "internet experts". My "K" variant is a very fine lens, and one of my most often used, especially on full-frame.
