Seen this on ebay, looks like a Tokina made lens and is very different to my Yashica DX 300/5.5.

Yes, its certainly the old Tokina preset.

Yashica sold several third party lenses under their Yashinon brand in the 1960's.

Excellent, thank you! Mine is like the one on the left, except it's shiny black rather than chrome Smile

Nice find ! I haven't seen a side-by-side catalog entry with both the R and DX Yashinons. Do you know what year that catalog is from, or if it is from a manual, for what model SLR ?

The 300mm DX version is not that easy to find in black or other trim. Its much less common than the 200mm DX.

It's from a lens catalog, date unknown, "Yashinon-DX Lenses".

I have uploaded the whole catalog here http://s165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/precertvideo/yashica/ - it is rather interesting, some nice long lenses.

The camera featured in the catalog (see the 21mm section) is the TL Super.

The TL Super is said to date from 1966, so I would guess that the catalog is from the late 1960's anyway, maybe 1967-68 ?

Interesting. I would not have thought the DX series were so early. I was thinking they were from maybe 1970.

The 600/8 long lens in the catalog was made by Kawanon/Kawakami. I had one of these in another brand.

The 200/4.5 preset was not what I was expecting, as I have seen the familiar Tokina preset sold as a Yashinon. This one however is different, and from an unknown maker.

The 35/2.8 and 135/2.8 presets seem like they are from other makers also. The 35/2.8 preset (which strangely has a spread to itself, while the premium DX auto lens doesn't) at least I may have seen in a T-mount version. Who knows.

Very interesting, thank you.
