It's quite strange to make macro at 1.70m distance.
They are not made with use of the doubler. One more thing to try, but I'll definitely need the tripod this time...

I feel that the focusing ring is very smooth and precise. The clear range finder of the 5D MkII helps a lot.

Referring to the information at adaptall-2.org, I see that there is a difference in the optical formula between the 55B and 55BB. So, I'm curious -- do you two -- Olivier and Mo -- own the same models or different ones? If different, have you made any comparisons between the two? Adaptall-2.org doesn't have much in the way of specifics.

Doing some googling . . . found this thread over at the Pentax forums. 28 pages long now, and it's been going on for two years. Seems that many of the guys over there prefer the Tamron 55BB:

But the variety is interesting and informative.

BTW, here's an interesting comparison done between the Tamron 500/8 and a Canon 500mm f/4.5 L lens. I thought the Tamron held its own against the excellent Canon optic very well:

I'm thinking more and more that the 5D MkII helps a lot to obtain very good image quality.

Michael, mine is also a 55B.
We have a built in lens hood and a detachable tripod mount.
Both are very useful and I prefer to have them directly on the lens.
