One early method of color photography, split the output of 1 lens, through C-Y-M filters onto 3 pieces of film. Print these one on top of each other in R-G-B and you have color!

Edward Steichen of course shows off with a double exposure:

I haven't found an ad for Devin but I did find two competitors, so this was a minor movement for a while
