I don't know the Vivitar 1.9/28.

But I do know the Vivitar 2/28 and a Vivitar 1.9/35.
The Viv 2/28 is good on fullframe and excellent on APS crop.
The Viv 1.9/35 is a little better on fullframe (edges) but not as good as the 2/28 on crop. The 2/28 is generally sharper than the 1.9/35.
At least my copies are.

I can recommend both lenses.

There is two different Vivitar 2/28s. Kino (Kiron) made and Komine made "Close Focus".

I believe the 28/1.9 is the Series 1 lens, but I've never seen a direct comparison of it and the 'regular' 28/2. When the Series 1 family was introduced, the range was claimed to be pretty much state-of-the-art.

I did have a 28/2 some years ago which performed well on film.

28/1.9 S1 komine made / ~1975 optigon design with back element fixed (= floating)
28/2 is different design (1980) / Komine made (usually top) or kiron made (usually vg to excellent)

If you find a f/2 Close Focus, don't hesitate.

I have both lenses, the Viv 28/1.9 and the 28/2 CF komine made

I think that the Viv 28/2 is sharper, specially wide open, but there is some CA, but at f/2.8 is gone, and the sharpness stopped down is stunning.

I'll post later a comparison I made with both lenses

I wish I also had the Komine made 28mm F2 Vivitar. I do have the Kiron made & it is sharp but I 'd like to compare them to each other. (now I do have the 28mm F2.8 CF & 135mm F2.8 CF Komine made Vivitar lenses) Anyone have both the 28 F2 & 28 F2.8 CF Komine made Vivitars? opinions?

My Vivitar 28/2.8 is Bauer made. I have not had a chance to give it a good work-out.

Hi Ivan,

How does the Vivs compare to your Rokkor 28/2 ?

Hey!

The Vivitar 28/2 CF is close in sharpness to the Minolta, but the Minolta is even sharper wide open and is much better on the CA department

The same scene with the Minolta:

f/2.8

It's clearly better, the viv 28/2 Thank you for your information and links.

I remember a comparision of 28/1.9 (Tokina) and Komine 28/2.0. Wide-open sharpness was very similar. I think Kiron 28/2.0 has more distorsion than Tokina and Komine...

I would imagine the Minolta can't focus as closely? I'd love to use more Minolta glass, and even have some left over from film days, but the mount is the problem despite my having a descendant Sony camera. Vivitar came in M42 which makes life much easier. I curse Minolta for changing mounts when they went auto-focus.

yeah, the Minolta focus only to 0.3m (I think it's the norm for most 28mm lenses), and the Viv focus to 0.23m
