Tom Crean was an Irishman who served under Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on three of the four major British expeditions to Antarctica, back in the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration.

I have always had an interest in the successes and failures of both Scott and Shackleton's expeditions, and huge admiration for Tom Crean, and last weekend we had the opportunity to visit his birthplace and burial place in County Kerry, on the South coast of Ireland.

All shots were taken using Flektogon 3.5/35 on EOS 40D - old school colour Wink

Those guys were truly nuts! Laughing Shackleton & crew would sail his boat through arctic seas & weather for months, land someplace, then go technical mountain climbing. Shocked No small feat even for today, he did go there more than once at turn of 19th to 20th century!

Thanks Mal - a great Irishman with a classic Irish wanderlust. And a lovely tribute in pictures
