Removing front elements

Destroyed a lens this evening (a cheap one, phew!) trying to remove the front element. Clearly, I didn't have the right tools. What tools do you use for this job? Is it something like this?

A lens sucker will help you to grab the lens gently out of the barrel without damaging it; it will not help you to unscreew anything. For that purpose you may need spanner wrenchs like that :
