Hi!
Today I tried my "new" SMC Takumar 135mm F2.5 and it impresses at the largest aperture, but stop down it gives no more than any other 135mm.
My "Beercan" Zoom gives similar results at f5-5.6.
What are your experiences of the lens, my ex is in good condition.

F2.5

F2.5

The 135/2.5 V2 (not the V1) is one of my sharpest lens at its full aperture. If yours is not sharp, it may have been disassembled or dropped...

You must have a great "Beercan" zoom! Very Happy

My experience with M42 S-M-C Takumar 2.5/135 V2 has been I have no zoom with comparable IQ at any aperture.

What's the diff in V1 and V2?

I have this one. Asahi Pentax Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 135mm F2.5. I find it tack sharp.

formula : 5 or 6 elements and better result for v2

the n° under switch A/M can help

I tried to compare Takumar against Beercan at aperture f5.6
Took the sharpest images of about 10

Here is a full res picture with mine, at f/2.5 (clic on it to get the full res) :

And here is a comparative of 6 135mm lenses with the 135/2.5 V2 :

If yours doesn't give such resultats, it have a serious problem Wink

I agree. I have the V2 and it is razor sharp. Love it.

In these 100% crops, the Takumar is slightly front-focused, while the 'Beercan' focus is spot on the taillight lens.

To clarify the difference in ver1 and ver2, Ver2 has 6 elements in 6 groups. Ver1 has 5 elements in 4 groups.

Sharpness wise, almost all lenses, even cheap ones, are very good by f5.6-8. So it is not surprising that there is little difference at f5.6. There are other properties to lenses however, and I am sure you didn't buy a nice f2.5 telephoto to shoot it at f5.6.

The lens is sharp at F2.5 and I bought it for the large aperture but my former Zeiss Sonnar was sharper at F4 than this Takumar.
It is in good condition and do not appear to be damaged or opened(the screws are not scratched) but it has gaps between the tubes and is not as stable as Takumar usually is.

You can also check the last distance mark before infinity on the distance scale: the 6 lenses/6 group one has marked 35 meters ...

Cheers

I've listed 5 different means to distinguish them on my site :

Bokeh in the first picture is nice, but its quite distracting for 2 and 3.

So if switch has the number 43812 it's version 1 or 2?

I was quite excited to find a MINT copy of this lens (Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 135mm f2.5 V2) with original case, hood and caps for $75 shipped. I think it is going to look quite good on the black Spotmatic that I'm having CLA'd by Eric right now. (Of course I will have to try it on the K-x DSLR, as well). Smile

Don't tell my wife, but I'm starting to look suspiciously like a collector/user. Wink

I was lucky last month, and found a minty v2 with caps at a shop in Santa Fe NM for US$60. (Santa Fe Photo CoOp on Cerrillos Road around 5th Street.) Original caps only, no hood nor case, but that's good enough for me!

Enjoy them, you two. I have the first version, and find that to be quite a good lens, so the second version must be an excellent lens.

Zowie. My mint 135mm f2.5 with hood, caps and case purchase has just turned into including a Spotmatic F and 35mm f3.5 Takumar in similar condition for an extra $20.
