Scanning problem?

I scanned this image tonight and it looks like there's a slight flare on the
left side. Looking at the photograph (which I used to scan) there's no
flare.

This is the first scan that has done this, and I'm pondering what else
might cause this phenomenon. I used same room lighting, etc, as with
the others. Perhaps placing a black cloth over the scanner would reduce this,
or turning off all the lights? Rolling Eyes Any ideas are most appreciated.

ps didn't know really where to post this, and will take down pic in a few days.

Bill, you don't need to take the pic down. As for location, I guess that we would need a "post-processing and publishing" forum. I pondered about it, and about other forum proposals we had, but we have already so many forums, that unless we don't see a big urgent need of new ones, I think it's better to stay as we are.

About the flare: have you tried to make other scans and see if the problem reappears?

Looking at the above photo in good light and noticed fingerprints on the left side where the flaring phenomenom occurs. This one doesn't have fingerprints:

I think I solved the mystery...
