sometimes I wonder if such events are better recorded in video then select some frames for photos
here are some pics from yesterday videos
the band is from Germany

Video surely allows you to easily pick a best frame, but, a part of the pleasure of photography is also in the challenge of picking the right moment, don't you think? Even at the risk of missing it.

Curious event, what kind of band was it?

sure, waiting for the moment is all the pleasure of photography
today a 7D with 10fps is about the same as video
video is different than photography, people understand you film and don't care about you
if you approach someone while filming, it is not the same that suddenly pointing the lens when near them
it is the same with insects, when you stay behind the viewfinder and approach them slowly, chance to capture them are bigger
I think that HD video give more in crowed place

I can see what you mean.
But maybe if you take videos with a photo camera people still thinks you are photographing?

Nice photo site, too bad there is no musical samples.

Taking pictures will still get you better results (colors, contrast and sharpness).
