I like taking pictures of sunsets -- especially ocean sunsets. But whenever I point my lens directly at the sun, I know I run the risk of getting flare. Sometimes it's worth it. For example, I consider this photo a keeper despite the flare. And I have others where the flare has taken on such unusual forms that I kinda like the photos because of the unusual flare objects that are created.

Not sure about the lens I used, but I'm pretty sure it was a Tamron AF 24-70mm Aspherical. EOS Elan IIe, Kodachrome 200.

Ooooh! Nice one Michael! I like how the whole frame is repeated inside the hexagon. And use of curves as 'lines' in composition.

I didn't know if i should revive this thread, or start a new one, but i decided to revive this one.

Shot with a Super-Takumar 1.4/50. Obviously, this is only a picture of the flare, and not a picture with a flare in it, but i still love this flare. i might crop it at a later date.

Yes, three bracketed exposures put together in photomatix pro. Each exposure had the flare.

contax 35:1.4 flare image is so clear, well defined, "pure" and "uncluttered", sharp! Some other "flare" in that photo! Laughing

MC Mir 20 M beautiful color & shapes. See that dark spot in green circles? Does lens have fungus or dust on element? Mmmmmmm, figs, delicious figs! Very Happy I miss the trees at my childhood home. Sharp lens; long long hairs on caterpillar!

Hopefully it's dust: I can see no traces of fungus looking through the lens, while there are some dust specks.
