Hello!
I only found this forum a few days ago- just a few moments after I found myself smitten with some Russian glass. I've been checking out the Bay, and that seems fairly reasonable, but I have a friend who will be in Kiev in a few months. Are there any recommended shops to check out? She is a lovely friend and has already agreed to pick up a lens or two for me (I know! I owe her big time) if I give her specific instructions... which means I have to narrow down my list of wants, but...
I guess a secondary question is this- is it worthwhile to have her look for me? I assume it would be less expensive to get the lenses there rather than here (US), but I could be wrong.
Thank you-
Stephanie |

Hello Stephanie!
Nice to see you here !
Russian glasses are generally cheap even with shipping to USA. If your friend is not familiar with manual focus lenses , perhaps she will buy lenses with different problems, fungus, aperture not working etc, etc.
I think best way buy them from trustworthy sources like this forum members, Ebay sellers with good feedbacks etc.
I frequently buy lenses for testing and re-selling in local shops , half of the lens has troubles so not always easy to pick up good ones. _________________

I suppose you could teach her now before she goes on what to look out for when buying? _________________ Ricoh Singlex TLS,

Welcome to the forum Stephanie.
Is your friend into photography? If not, it might be a bit difficult for her. Unless she goes into some established photography shops in Kiev and buy new stuffs. _________________

No, she's not that into photography. I was hoping that if I gave her a few pointers on the mechanics (the obvious fungus and dust, a brief explanation of correct aperture ring behavior) and a list of a few lenses I'd like that there would be a shop that sold used lenses.
No?
Thanks for the help so far!
