With the way production of the 44 moved around so much, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that MMZ was ordered to produce the 44-2 in 76 just to keep the factory busy.

I did some research and it seems that the rare Vilejka Helios-44M-5 was one of kit lenses for the ZENIT 130 camera (together with Valdai Helios-44M-5 with new barrel design and Valdai Helios-44M-4) manufactured in Belarus in the late nineties.

MMZ was still producing the 44-2 in 1976.
Well, this lens was not produced in 1976 because the serial number system of MMZ is different. Important here is the first digit (7). So the lens was produced in 1977. MMZ then tried to make their "own" Helios-44, the Helios-44-3, since 1980.

No BM, the translation is Helios 44-2, made in MMZ in 1969 and 70 not 70s. As I said, from 1971 MMZ used the first 2 digits of the s/n (as all other manufacturers) allowing for old stock etc.

It's not that big deal, but 70x mean that it's not only 70, and all the 70's. Also the exemple given is pretty clear : if serial is 5012345, then it's 1975. Smile First digit is 5, so even in 1975, the first digit rule ruled.

Well BM, Calvin's asking for info on his lens, the info is...MMZ followed KMZ'S S/N.There was a brief hiatus in 1969/70, when both[i] KMZ and MMZ change their system (coinciding with MMZ becoming Belomo). Lenses beginning with 9 were made in 196[b]9[/b] - lenses beginning with 0 were made in 1970.

Under the old system, if a lens from KMZ or MMZ begins with 5 it was made in 196[b]5[/b]. From 1971, both KMZ and Belomo (MMZ) used the two digits of the year as the first two digits of the S/N . eg 71xxx - 1971, 76xxx - 1976. Ah can't be any clearer than that. That is the correct sequence... Cool

Just bought myself another Vilejka Helios-44M-5. This time with a nice serial number starting with '0000'. The Zenit body (Vilejka Zenit 130) it was attached to was manufactured in 1998.

Hi! I just ordered my very first manual lens .. and it just so happens to be a Helios!

I don't know very much about it other than it being 50mm f/2.0 ... and I'm pretty sure it's a nikon F mount version

I look foward to seeing the quality it will bring!

The Helios-81 ABTOMAT is used in Kiev-10/15 camera. It is not in Nikon F unless the lens has been converted. Go for a Helios-81 H if you want a copy with F mount http://allphotolenses.com/lenses/item/c_396.html .

it's actually going on my canon 600D ... I had some trouble finding out what mount it was on



I've ordered a nikon f to eos adapter ... I take it I have ordered the wrong one? woops...

No adapter is available for either Canon EOS nor Nikon F. You need to convert the lens.

And conversion is not easy since the diaphragm is controled by the camera. Also if you manage to convert it, you will have infinity only on mirrorless. The Avtomat mount is like a russian Canon FD mount.

Just bought a Auto Cosmogon (SN: 008803) on a Zenith Em.
Both look good.

After getting the chrome Helios 44 f22, I've reached another achievement in collecting Helios lenses. It's supposed to be in the first batch of Helios 44-2 from KMZ, right? This lens is being delivered to me so I don't know about the quality yet, but I have another one from KMZ (N0001991) and it's the sharpest among the Helios 44-2 I've tested.
