Kabraxis,

beautiful photos! I have a Canon 7d and was thinking about buying a 100 year anniversary version of this lens which is silver and black. Looking at the night shots with your 50D I couldn't help but wonder what ISO you used. The night scenes look so noiseless, especially for a lens with a F2.8 maxium aperture.

Thanks

Hi bleach551,

nothing special Smile i only used a tripod for the night scenes. All Images were shot at ISO 100.

greetings from Switzerland

Kabraxis,

100 ISO!!!! Shocked with a F2.8 lens !!! Shocked , Is this lens at f2.8 able to produce night images as well as a lens with an maximum aperture of lets say f1.4. or are you using really long exposures or something. I was planning on getting a Planar 50mm f1.7 for its speed, but now, after seeing your night photos with the tessar, I have to rethink that decision.

For the first "Night" Image i used 8sek to exposure, and for the second one 20sek (at ISO-50 with f/11). But without a tripod (most of time i've got my tripod mounted on my backpack) i would prefer the f1.7 lens.

Kabraxis,

thanks alot for your quick reply. I was also going to be using this as a lens for HD video on my 7d for day and night scenes. However, I now realize, from you explanation, that those night images can only be acheived with long to really long exposures that could not be used with motion captured video. The planar 50mm F1.7 would be a better choice as you stated. Thanks again, you have been most helpful. Very Happy

Rand
