This is my new toy..

Did arrive yesterday evening and i was glad to take some shots in the darkness, where this lens was made for... all shots taken @1.2 on
EOS 5D MKII

Shopping with my wife ... tungsten light...

Highlighths in the DOF Area with a curious effect...not my taste..

First impression:

The lens is sharp and contrasty. Nearly no purple fringing like most of the 1.2 Lenses do have. Bokeh is creamy and phantastic. I like this lens very much. Further aspects will follow..

Cheers
Henry

Nice. If you have the chance please try some shots on a tripod, just to minimize errors caused by normal tremor. Thanks!

haha, now slow down a bit, enjoy your new SMC 1.4/50 first!
personally I think there is no real gain in the f1.2 but for 'curiosity and scientific' reasons, but not everybody will agree Wink

I'm not in everybody, Laughing Andreas is right to me.

It's difficult to justify the 1,4 in front of 1,8 (I do it based in the SMC IQ but not in the plus aperture advantage). And more difficult should be justify the 1,2 in front of 1,4 in generals terms, not with a particular lens.

But just inside the game of lenses, I like to be the comparision among the ultra lominuos marvels. Anyways, not my money. Very Happy

Rino.

Here are some further Bokeh samples for you... i like the SMC Pentax 1.2/50mm. Its the first Pentax lens that is special for me. Normally i prefer the "red dot" (Leica Dot) on the lens, not a "white dot" Very Happy

IMHO the SMC 1.2/50mm brings together the Bokeh of a
Rokkor 1.2/58mm PG and the center-sharpness of the Canon FD 1.2/55mm SSC.. (ignoring the 8mm in focal length which made the OOF Area a bit smoother)

All shots @1.2, ISO 1000, no postprocessing.

Now a sample showing the beautiful OOF Area.. in mixed light conditions..

and a shot with flowers... Very Happy

Cheers
Henry

Henry.

Thanks for sharing that nice examples.

And your comparision with the center of canon and rokkor's borders is very ilustrative.

I'm a red dot fan, but in the M side not so R.

My best regards, Rino.

Interesting... you mean the real gain in the f1.2 is in "curiosity and scientific"
You can read in a (for you) well known german forum a comparison about the Summilux and the the Pentax SMC 1.4/50mm, which has nearly the same optical formula. The Summilux wins the content. The SMC 1.2 is lot better then what i see from the SMC Takumar 1.4/50mm with one limitation.
The highlights in the OOF Area are not as good, as i espected. But in terms of sharpness, Bokeh, color rendering and contrast, the SMC 1.2/50mm with the higher correction of optical faults works far better for me, better as a simple SMC 1.4/50mm lens from Pentax.

After testing a lot of Takumars, years ago, this is the first lens, which earns a "Red Dot".. not more and not less.

Cheers
Henry
