great comparison.

The Sonnar is that the MC version or the Zebra?

i assume that the preset Pentacon, is the Orestegor version?

Both outputs have excellent colors, but also shows that both have different strengths, the Sonnar is much sharper full open, but the Pentacon has a nicer bokeh.

It is the Sonnar 135/3.5-MC-Red.
Greetings & Thanks

IMHO, Sonnar has better 3D and Bokeh. Mike

I think Pentacon/Meyer has smoother bokeh. Sonnar has more hard-edged highlights even wide opened.

I agree, although the Zeiss (as seems to be the usual) offers better contrast.

Would use the Pentacon for dreamy shots and the Zeiss for sharp ones - keep both Smile

Not only have different characteristics if they need different lights. The Pentacon, has the best Bokeh in situations of low contrast of light like a sunset. Greetings

Very useful, thanks!

Really don't know if I should get a Sonnar or not. I'm pleased with the pentacon I bought for 17€ (using it on movie mode). The question is, would I be more pleased if I'd spent 120€ on a sonnar?
I guess I would just have to try it, to take the doubts Wink

I didn't do any tests at all, but intuitively it seems my pentacon auto MC is less sharp than the preset...

The question is: What is your reason for happiness? Photographically speaking ....

The Pentacom MC should be a little sharper than the preset. It is possible to have a thin layer of oil?

Greetings and thanks for your comment Smile

Sonnar shows better micro-contrast which results into more "3D".
Pentacon images are more flat.
Different styles anyway, there is people who prefers smooth-flat for portraits.

If it is as you say. Both have their magic and I keep and use them to work.
