I found where I can pick up either the Zuiko OM 50mm f1.4 MC or the old Nikon Auto-S 50mm f1.4 for about the same price (roughly $50 in decent shape). Which one would you get? Is one better than the other? Seems to be a good price for both compared to ebay.

Either lens is fascinating. I have both in my collection and I do not want to part with either one.
I guess the Zuiko goes for more money in the bay than the pre-AI Nikkor, but I am not sure.

Why don't you get both and see for yourself? The price is really fair.
(But beware, you could easily want to keep both lenses. Just like me. Wink)

Personally I would go with the Zuiko. I have no experience with it but I do have experience with the Nikon.

Comparing the Zuiko to the old Nikkor, I would go for the Zuiko.

I've had quite a few Zuiko 50mms, 1.4 and 1.8, single and multi-coated. Even the single coated ones were highly impressive.

If the toss-up were between the Zuiko and an AI-S ... ahhhh - that would be interesting!

please anybody correct me..
anyway I remember having read various times that there are quite a few versions of the OM f1.4/50mm and that the best ones are those with a serial number higher than 1.100.000 ( often it is said that the earlier single coated are not all that great, but it could be well an internet myth )

It seems to be not so easy.

Honestly? I would buy both and sell one after some months of testing.

The Nikkor is a fine lens, but it didn´t convince me the way many other Nikkor primes have managed to. But I know I had a copy which wasn´t entirely OK.
