Hi,

Some times ago i made a series of test shots with five 35mm, including the two Fleks 35/2.4 and 35/2.8, and the Nikkor-O 35/2.
If interested, the post is here.

Cheers

You would be better off with the 35mm f1.4 Ai-S as its sharper and faster than the f2 version...Not much more expensive either. Wink

Hello Indianadinos;
The truth is that on one occasion I almost bought a 135mm Isco, I opted for the Pentacon and CZJ, for the bokeh.

In your comparison of 35mm the best is the Isco Westron 35mm 2.8. Much better.
Many Thanks Wink

PD: Your opinion of bokeh?

You would be better off with the 35mm f1.4 Ai-S as its sharper and faster than the f2 version...Not much more expensive either. Wink

Thanks
I'm going to keep in mind, since the 2.0 produces its best image to F56.

Well, bearing in mind that bokeh is a matter of taste, i have found that in some cases the Flek 35/2.4 renders the bokeh almost as if it were a painting ...
OTOH, the Flek 35/2.8 (as well as the excellent SMC Takumar 35/2) has a more creamy bokeh and a more pronounced "3D" effect (have a lot of samples in my Flickr photostream).

The Nikkor-O bokeh didn't impress me too much, maybe i should try to get the time to use it a bit more ...

Cheers

Where can I pick up my 35/1.4 Ai-S for $120? Smile

The Isco Westron is FWIK a cheaper version of Schneider Curtagon 35/2.8, which is also one of my preferred 35mm.

Yeah, that's what I though!

There is a huge price difference here in Germany between the 2.0 and the 1.4.

I used to have the pre-AI 2.0/35 which is a fantastic lens on a crop cam (350D/40D).
But I have recently read that it has poor edges on a fullframe sensor.
And again, this could have been just the one copy of the person that wrote that.

I really liked my Nikkor 2/35 a lot. I have just sold it, because of my Summicron-R 2/35.

The 35mm F2 Ai-Nikkor is very good on Crop. Extremely sharp already at F2. But I cannot make any statments for fullframe sensors.

Now I am using the AF version, simply because I need an AF large aperture normal lens. It is very decent, very nice performance on short focal distances, but the manual versions are half a step better.

I have the 35/2 Ai and use it exclusively on film; no edge problems that I can see.

I use it on 5DmkII. No problems with edge quality from f/4. A nice sharp lens with very little CA and outresolving the (quite dense) 21MP FF sensor. Mine is Ai-S.

I was in Grays of Westminster yesterday, looking at their huge stock of Nikkor MF lenses. They had several 35/1.4 available, ranging from 500 to 800 pounds depending on condition, or 950-odd for a new in box. They had 35/2 for around 250-350 pounds. (Conditions varied from mint to excellent ...)

Grays are living in cloud cuckoo land if they think anyone in their right mind would pay prices like that...Try ebay and you can pick up near mint 35/1.4 Ai-S lenses for £350:

or slightly less:

I paid about £250 for mine from a camera shop in North London...Just shows that if you shop about you can find bargains.

I have another option; the Zeiss ZF 35/2.
With the introduction of the chipped ZF.2 the original version should drop in price on the used market; it can be had for about the price of a good copy of the Nikkor 35/1.4. The Zeiss is a fantastic lens.
I've never used the Nikkor 35/1.4 but from what I have read, internal flare leaves it wanting when used wide-open. The Zeiss sports a newer optical formula, more modern coatings and is razor sharp at f/2.

The OP is asking about lenses which can probably be obtained for ~ 150 GBP in the UK. The ZF 35/2 costs about 800 GBP in the UK at the moment. Maybe it's much cheaper elsewhere but can you really see a used copy being sold for anything near the price of a Nikkor 35/2 or CZJ Flektogon 35/2.4 ?

No, but neither can the Nikkor 35/1.4 spoken of above be had for £150.
I have seen the Zeiss sell used on eBay for ~US$500-600 (~£350).
Perhaps I had a bad sample but the few times I used a borrowed Nikkor 35/2, I found that it flared and ghosted easily and excessively. Doing without that bothersome trait is probably worth the modest extra expense. Haven't used the Flektogon so can't comment.
