there is now a very short helicoid (8 - 15mm) which has a m42 lens mount and a microFourThirds m4/3 rear mount.

Price is: usd85 / eur62 which includes shipping.

If interested, please send me a pm.

I'm sorry to be so ignorant, but could you please give me an example of what kind of lens I would need this for? Really curious, thanks!

Stefan

Anylens which does not have a suitable own focusing helicoid and a relatively short focal length (since that helicoid is short). 8mm plus ca 20mm register makes it 28mm at infinity position (if wanted), so depending on lens built and design that should work for lenses > ca 30-40mm focal length (testing needed, there is no fixed rule).

Thanks Klaus. Mmhh, I have a few of these fast Rodenstock fixed-everything lenses, most likely former x-ray machine lenses. I was thinking about gluing one to a c-mount adapter and using a focusing rail but this might be an alternative. But I think they are 64 and 90mm. I will have to play around with it a little bit, I think it will only work for macros/close-ups anyway. Another project for the new year...

BTW: Inserting a M39-M42 ring allows to mount lots of cheap enlarger lenses Exclamation

ALSO, you can use Nikkor-O 55/2 and other ULTRA-Micro-Nikkor lenses. Very Happy

Since back-focus becomes 28mm, which is very close to M mount register
distance (= 27.8 mm), so with M39->M42 adapter you can use any L mount
lenses, whose register distance is 28.8 mm. Cool

DARN, don't expose all the secrets to the crowd Koji Wink Wink

I already have my S-Orthoplanars working and soon the Apo EL Nikkors
and of course the 1.2/55mm Nikkor-O and the Macro Nikkors and my old 2.8/50mm
Apo Lanthar in shutter and my Steiheil Quartz 1.5/50mm and...(ghaps for breath), geezzz I
guess I can mount nearly all my lenses I have....

Hahaha,,,,

The only problem I have is lack of wide angle lens for m4/3 camera,
though they may be problematic for sharp image so I should be content
with what I have now.

My KERN Macro Switar 50/1.9 works perfectly with macro capability too,
which was not available with range finder cameras, they only focus to 0.7
meter at its MFD.

Yep, Switars work well, but the 25mm starts to have vignetting already, and teh 16mm is pretty bad.
I'm also looking to locate a useful wide angle which covers the full sensor, so I guess it has to be
lenses for 35mm film...

A fine macro lens, previously unheard of is the Carl Zeiss Jena Macro Floatar 2.8/35mm, mostly
used for scientific imaging which has a built in long helicoid, focusing down to 15cm (0.15m).

Both shot fully open, handheld:

Funny that we picked the same flower!!
